We recently transformed a front driveway in Ipswich, creating a visually appealing and durable block-paved surface that enhances the curb appeal of the property. The project involved the removal of the old, worn-out surface, which was replaced with a beautifully designed block-paved driveway.

The original driveway was a mix of gravel and uneven paving slabs, offering little in terms of aesthetics or functionality. The area was in dire need of a refresh to complement the charming appearance of the home.
After:
The completed project showcases a meticulously laid block-paved driveway in a herringbone pattern, framed with a contrasting border to add definition and style. Project Process:
Initial Consultation:
- Conducted an assessment of the existing driveway to evaluate its condition and discuss the client’s design preferences.
- Presented a range of block paving samples, assisting the client in selecting the ideal color and pattern to complement their home.
Site Preparation:
- Cleared away the old gravel and removed the existing concrete slabs.
- Excavated the driveway area to the necessary depth, ensuring a solid and stable foundation for the new block paving.
- Installed a sub-base of crushed stone to enhance drainage and ensure the stability of the driveway.
Edging and Base Layer:
- Installed concrete edge restraints to define the driveway’s perimeter and maintain the integrity of the block paving.
- Spread a layer of sharp sand over the sub-base, then leveled it using a vibrating plate compactor to create a smooth, even surface ready for paving.
Block Paving Installation:
- Carefully laid the chosen block paving bricks in the predetermined pattern, ensuring tight joints and proper alignment throughout the installation.
- Expertly cut blocks to fit seamlessly around edges and obstacles.
Finishing Touches:
- Applied kiln-dried sand to fill the joints between the blocks, ensuring long-term stability and preventing weed growth.
- Compacted the entire driveway surface to securely lock the blocks in place.
- Conducted a thorough site cleanup, leaving the client with a pristine, beautifully finished driveway.
